– Agios Ioannis beach – 2nd most beautiful of the world
Our trip starts from the port of Hora Sfakion. 10 people on board and a speed boat that ensures we reach Gavdos island within an hour. Our first stop is Potamos beach, sandy with amazing canyons on the background. Next, we travel along the rugged southwest coastline, admiring the rock formations carved by the elements up to the southernmost point of Europe. Τhere is a giant chair advises us to “Relax and Smile!” and so we do, then making our way to Karave port, taking our mini bus to Korfos for a wonderful lunch with magnificent views. Last stop Agios Ioannis beach, voted as second most beautiful of the world by Travel Channel in 2007. A sandy beach with sand dunes and cedar trees, which offer shade for hippies staying there for a couple of weeks or even months! An unforgettable experience, a trip back to the 60s and 70s, when naturism was the way of life.
Sfakia lies in a mountainous area in the southwestern part of the island of Crete, in the Chania regional unit. If Sfakia, is your destination, you will probably have driven, bused or taxied over the White Mountains ( Lefka Ori ) from Chania and elsewhere on the Northern coast, a journey that is memorable for the view.
The Municipality of Sfakia is located in the foothills of the White Mountains. Corresponds to the historic region of Sfakia. According to the 2011 census, the municipality has 1,889 inhabitants and a total area of 467,589 acres. The City remained unchanged with the program Kallikratis
After numerous autumn holidays in the Canary Islands we decided on a complete change for 2015 and booked a two-week break at Vritomartis, our first visit to the beautiful island of Crete.
After a scenic trip over the cloud shrouded mountains from Chania we glimpsed our destination far below – Vritomartis, an oasis in the beige barren landscape. The friendly welcome and thirst quenching orange juice gave us an early taster of the kindness of the Sfakian people that we would experience over the next two weeks.
Our bungalow was beautifully located with stunning views from the balcony of the sparkling Libyan Sea and the island of Gavdos is the distance.
A trip along the wild west coast of Sfakia which is only accessible by boat or hiking through the E4 path. After we leave Chora Sfakion you can enjoy our boat trip in the nude! Our first skinny dipping stop is Kalogeros (Monk) beach where we are all alone. Beautiful rock formations make snorkeling a must, so make sure to bring your masks and tubes! On our way to our next stop we approach the coast and you can have a view of the famous Samaria gorge. Next stop is St Paul beach with its 10th century Byzantine church and the beautiful pine forest. A tavern there can offer you some shade and a nice cold drink. After the second skinny dipping dive in the fresh water of St Paul we continue to the picturesque village of Loutro where we can enjoy our lunch. Last stop of our naturist boat trip is Sweet Water beach where we enjoy our last skinny dip! Make sure to shower with the cold clean water coming straight from the White Mountains. Keep in mind that the beaches we reach are wild and have no quay, so it is essential that you can swim a short distance to the shore. We will bring your camera, towels and whatever else needed in a waterproof bag. All you have to worry about is enjoying the sunshine and the sea bottom views!
A morning ride through a beautiful forest and a windy road gets us to Imbros gorge entrance. A cool air breeze at 780 m makes the walk easier and during the different seasons one can notice different flowers blooming. Dragon Lilly and delphinium in spring, wild mint and sea squill in autumn are some of these! An easy, but still requiring good shoes, 2,5 hours walk downhill. Have an apple with you for the donkey we might meet on our way down and enjoy nature’s scents and views!
Pachnes is the highest mountain summit of Crete (2456m) according to the latest satellite measurements and it is certainly a place you must visit if you are interested in hiking. The way to Pachnes through Anopolis and the pine tree forest ends after a 2-hour hiking trip. The sea of mountains as described by our guests, the lunar landscape… and the views of Cretan and Libyan sea create a breathtaking view!
We start with an uphill ride with spectacular views of the Libyan sea on a curvy road to reach Anopolis village. The adventure starts when off road driving through a pine forest leads us to the beginning of Ilingas gorge. A short walk downhill and we reach a 14th century church and the only water spring in the area. Then the naturist part begins! 1,5 to 2 hours walk just like Adam and Eve and then off to Anopolis for a tasty lunch with traditional products and lots of tsikoudia! Join and you won’ t regret it!
Mini – Description of the tour:
The wildest, most impressive gorge of the municipality. A Bailey noisy bridge brings us to the village of Aradena, which was abandoned after a vendetta. We walk down the walls of the gorge and the adventure starts. Eight more challenging vertical passages. Red colored walls, wild goats and herbs scents. The spectacular scenery is completed as soon as Gryffon Vultures show up in the sky… Time for a drink or a Sfakian pie with the view of the clear blue sea and marble rock caves!
We start on Thursdays at 8.00 from the hotel and our first stop is Loutro where we have some time for a drink. Afterwards we take the path and after 1 hour walk, enjoying the endless blue sea and sky, we arrive at Sweet Water beach. Sweet Water beach has springs of fresh ice-cold water coming straight from the White Mountains. The eastern part of the beach is naturist and there are Tamarix trees offering shade as well as umbrellas and sunbeds for rent. The tavern offers a variety of drinks as well as delicious food! We return with a private boat and we are back at the hotel around 12.45.
