Just Above Sweet Water Beach
Mini – Description of the tour
We start on Thursdays at 8.00 from the hotel and our first stop is Loutro where we have some time for a drink. Afterwards we take the path and after 1 hour walk, enjoying the endless blue sea and sky, we arrive at Sweet Water beach. Sweet Water beach has springs of fresh ice-cold water coming straight from the White Mountains. The eastern part of the beach is naturist and there are Tamarix trees offering shade as well as umbrellas and sunbeds for rent. The tavern offers a variety of drinks as well as delicious food! We return with a private boat and we are back at the hotel around 12.45.
Guest Quotes
Mary & Geoff, UK:
“The trip was great fun. We really enjoyed the informative walk across to sweet water which is a lovely bay. The trip was made even more enjoyable by the boat taxi which was great fun.”

Halfway to Heaven
Barrie, UK:
“If you look carefully as you travel by boat to Loutro you can see the footpath clinging to the mountain side. This daunting view however is deceiving as the path in the main part is of a generous width, pleasant to walk and not at all precipitous. The quaint waterfront at Loutro gives way to it rising and falling footpath as it meanders along the coast. The scenery is magnificent with the mountain side rearing up on the left and to your right the deep blue sea drawing your eye to the island of Gavdos in the far distance, right on the edge of Europe.
The culmination of the walk occurs as a small crag is breasted and Sweet Water Bay opens up before you. A careful descent takes you down to the beach where sunbeds and umbrellas are available. Further along the beach backed by a grove of trees is the naturist section. The beach is coarse sand and fine gravel – wonderful to swim from. A cafe bar is on the water edge and doubles as a landing stage for the boat back to Chora Sfakion. The five of us in our party, led by the wonderfully irrepressible Sophia had a marvelous trip.”
